Pregnancy massage

…it’s more important than you think!

It's important more than ever to be taking care of yourself at this time, and pregnancy massage is a fantastic way to relax in those special months leading up to the big day.

Pre-natal massage is great for relieving any back and joint pains, achey feet, anxiety, reducing swelling, relieving sciatica and it also strengthens the immune system by encouraging lymphatic flow. These are all common things that women go through during their pregnancy- you don’t have to suffer, and it is possible for these symptoms to diminish altogether with regular appointments.

During pregnancy the female’s body changes drastically to accommodate for the baby,  and so massage can be extremely beneficial to ease common discomforts related to the skeletal and circulatory changes happening in the body, due to the changing of hormones.

Having regular appointments leading up to the day of birth can also improve labour outcomes and newborns health.  Just think- if you’ve been having regular massage throughout the nine months, your body and mind will feel relaxed, which will mean when the time has come for you to give birth, you will be in a relaxed state which will help the delivery to be a calm and hopefully stress-free experience.

I always see massage as a time of meditation- you’re focusing on the feelings, sensations and touch of what’s happening in that present moment, and concentrating on breathing…okay, your mind might be wandering and you’re thinking of about a million and one things- especially new mum’s to be! I feel like I can read their minds sometimes and can tell they are thinking about everything that needs to be done before the baby arrives!

But ultimately that just means it’s even more important for you to be scheduling in this time for yourself… before a new babe comes in to your life and turns everything upside down and your priorities change (in the best way possible of course!). What I was trying to get at is that massage is a form of meditation and breathing practice- which all helps in labour.

Logistically, the treatment itself focuses on side-lying and lots of pillows, to ensure total comfort and safety,

I’m extremely passionate about women’s health and wellbeing, and absolutely love working with women during this special time. Seeing client’s throughout their pregnancy fills me with joy- I love being a small yet special part of the process, and have total respect for the woman’s body and what we are capable of- like creating an actual human! Pretty damn cool.

With health & love, always,
